Portfolio for JIRA and Data Center at Atlassian Open Forum New York
Earlier this month, our Atlassian Open Forum: New York focused on bringing updates on Data Center solutions and managing portfolio with Portfolio for JIRA and Atlassian add-on BigPicture. It was a successful morning connecting Atlassian users discussing solutions to help companies improve their processes and teamwork.
Allison Riggs, director of global marketing for e-Core, gave a quick update on Atlassian Summit 2016. New features that were introduced: Kanban Backlogs on JIRA, live plans on JIRA Portfolio 2.0 and the newest Atlassian product, Status Page, a solution to help control incidents and reduce the support need. New Data Center updates include bringing high-availability to projects, supporting AWS and providing zero downtime upgrades.
Audrey Maclsaac, director of sales operations at MOAT, presented how they scaled their sales team operation migrating from Trello boards to an integration between JIRA and Salesforce. They needed a solution that could facilitate their global teams by providing data to drive their decisions, create improvements and support the leadership team with the better reporting. Her talk gave a real-life example of how JIRA can help track their vital requests and brought full visibility on team’s work.
Marco Roman, e-Core’s Atlassian consulting director, talked about the paradigm of choosing visibility over autonomy when dealing with projects, and that it’s best is to have a balance between the two and working on an integrated experience, something that a portfolio management tool would provide. He presented some Portfolio for JIRA demos to highlight the benefits on using a solution that provides real-time and transparent resource planning with full visibility on team’s efforts.
Other benefits of Portfolio for JIRA that Marco highlighted:
- Cross-project releases allowing for group releases from multiple JIRA projects
- Planning with accurate forecasts
- The possibility to commit changes to JIRA, speeding up the process
He also featured the JIRA plug-in BigPicture, a portfolio management add-on that focus its attention on Gannt modules charts and support teams with a great risk matrix.
The last presentation of the morning was: “Data Center: Scaling Mission- Critical Atlassian Applications”. As corporations continue to grow, it becomes necessary to scale the applications and to avoid that they work under high load, slowing down the response times. We reviewed how the Atlassian Data Center solutions can provide high availability, performance at scale and instant scalability. And with a disaster recovery strategy, the tools ensure that the processes can recover and continue to operate.
Marco presented a Cerner Case on Data Center JIRA use, showing how they supported more than 10,000 users routing their API traffic to a specific node in their Data Center cluster. Data Center is available for JIRA Software, Bitbucket, Confluence and JIRA Service Desk. Atlassian has more 830 add-ons and integrations compatible to help teams improve their work. Also, it’s easy to predict the costs because it’s licensed by user count.
Finally we finished the morning with a panel discussion, including questions from the attendees on how to improve their Atlassian tools use, better manage their portfolio and centralize management of the processes.
